Gov't Rolls Out Fresh Huduma Namba Registration Drive

The government has rolled out a fresh Huduma Namba registration to allow Kenyans who missed out in the last drive to register.

Speaking during his weekly media briefing on Thursday, government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna said two registration clerks will be deployed in every sub-location across the country to conduct the exercise.

“Those who did not register because they lacked birth certificates or other documents will be allowed to register,” said Oguna while speaking in Marigat, Baringo County.

Oguna’s announcement comes less than two months after the government completed mass registration of Kenyans in the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS).

This week, the Ministry of Interior published a bill that seeks to make it mandatory for every Kenyan citizen to have Huduma Namba.

The bill dubbed Huduma Namba Bill 2019 was published by the Ministry of Interior and proposes that a citizen must have the unique identification number in order to get access to any government services.

Kenyans have 14 days beginning July 25th to submit their views on the proposed Huduma Namba Bill before it is tabled in the National Assembly for debate and approval.

The bill states that anyone who transacts business without Huduma Namba will be liable to one-year imprisonment or pay a fine not exceeding Sh1 million.

Last month, Oguna said a total of 37.7 million people were listed during the mass registration while 11 million were left out.

The government has finally realized that Huduma Namba deadlines make no sense. These registration "drives" will keep popping up until hell freezes over.
