Poisons Board Denies COVID-19 Vaccine Caused Death of Kenyan Woman

The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has denied reports that one person died after being injected with the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Kenya.
In a statement, the board said the woman did not die from post-jab complications, terming the claim as a misreporting.
“The Pharmacy and Poisons Board would like to clarify reports by a section of the media that one person has died after being injected with the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. There was a misreporting of an Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) as fatal,” read the statement.
The board further indicated that 279 cases of effects after immunization have been reported so far, out of which 272 were mild and resolved within a short period.
“All reported serious AEFI are under investigation and none of them has resulted in fatal outcomes. Indeed, the seven serious AEFI have been reported as resolved,” PPB added.
PPB’s Dr. Peter Ikamati had earlier announced that the board was investigating the case where an expectant woman died in Uasin Gishu County after receiving the jab.
However, he noted that the woman’s death may have been caused by a miscarriage and not necessarily the vaccine.
