Kioni Reveals Reasons Behind Uhuru's Selection as Mt Kenya Kingpin

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has shed light on the rationale behind selecting former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the region's political kingpin despite his retirement from active politics.

Kioni's remarks disclose the profound respect and admiration that Uhuru commands across the region's political and cultural leadership. Transcending ideological divisions, both leaders from the Kenyan Kwanza and Azimio coalitions hold Uhuru in high esteem, a testament to his ability to unite and lead. His two-term tenure as the nation's president further solidified his position as a unifying figure. According to Kioni, Uhuru's selection was not a personal pursuit but rather a collective endorsement from the meeting attendees.

"He has already left politics, and we want him to engage with us to discuss our issues. As our former President and leader, why wouldn't we give him this position?" Kioni remarks.

He further emphasized the widespread recognition of Uhuru's leadership qualities and the community's desire to leverage his experience and expertise. While acknowledging potential divisions within traditional leadership structures, Kioni stresses that Uhuru's broad appeal and the people's respect for him were crucial factors in his selection. Plans are underway for a follow-up meeting to present Uhuru with the memorandum from the Limunu 3 gathering, further solidifying his role as the region's political figurehead.

The Limunu 3 meeting, held on May 17, brought together leaders from the ten Mt Kenya counties to address pressing community concerns. Key issues discussed included revenue allocation, the Kenya Kwanza taxation regime, and the region's political trajectory leading up to the 2027 elections.
