Sonko: Raila Begged Me to Join NASA

Nairobi senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko says that National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga approached him and begged him to ditch Jubilee and join NASA.

Sonko alleges that the former Prime Minister asked him to join NASA and replace incumbent Nairobi governor Evans Kidero as the ODM Nairobi governor candidate.

Sonko says that he has recorded video and audio evidence of the conversation between him and Raila Odinga. “I just don’t want to make those recordings public because I respect Raila so much and I’m also related to Kalonzo Musyoka. He is my elder brother,” Sonko said.

Speaking during a campaign tour in Nairobi on Sunday, Sonko said that it was hypocritical for Odinga to claim that he was not fit for the City’s top job when he begged him to join the opposition, an offer that he declined.

In the weekend, Odinga vowed that if he is elected as the President in the upcoming polls and Sonko is equally elected as the Nairobi Governor, he will immediately relinquish his seat.

"Nasikia kuna kijana moja anaitwa Sonko anataka kua gavana wa Nairobi. Jameni hatutaki madoadoa... Kama Sonko ni gavana na mimi nimechaguliwa kama rais, nitajiuzulu siku hiyo hiyo (I hear there is a young man called Sonko who wants to be Nairobi's governor... if Sonko is elected as governor and I am elected president then I will resign on that very day)," Raila said.

Sonko will be battling out for the Nairobi governor seat with Evans Kidero (ODM), former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth (Independent) and Miguna Miguna (Independent).
