Infighting in IEBC Soars as Five Commissioners Disown Chebukati's Leaked Memo

Infighting in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) continue to soar after five Commissioners disowned a memo written by Chairman Wafula Chebukati to CEO Ezra Chiloba demanding explanations on illegalities in nullified presidential poll.

The five, Commissioners Nkatha Maina, Prof Yakub Guliye, Amb Paul Kurgat, Boya Molu and Magret Mwachanya in a statement issued on Thursday night distanced themselves from the damning 12-point memo, saying that it was not discussed and sanctioned by the Commission Plenary.

The five claimed they learned about the existence of the memo through the media like everyone else.

“A quick perusal of the memo shows that the allegations are based on some report or information that has not been brought to the attention of the Commission. Most of the issues raised are not factual and could easily mislead if taken out of context. However, the Secretariat is reviewing the issues and will prepare appropriate responses to be presented to the Commission Plenary,” said statement by the five Commissioners.

On Tuesday, media reports indicated that the commission was divided on the new six member team unveiled by chairman Wafula Chebukati to preside over the October 17th repeat election.

Some commissioners are said to be opposed to the new team and questioned why the Ezra Chiloba-led secretariat was sidelined by the chairman, without their consent.

The crisis at the electoral commission further throws next month's poll in doubt, even as opposition National Super Alliance and the ruling Jubilee continue to demand changes in staff before the fresh election is conducted.

IEBC should not be allowed to run the election come October 17. This incompetent joint is responsible for giving the Kenyan voters mediocre candidates with closets full of skeletons. The latest example of a mentally deranged cleared candidate is Moses Kuria.

I have listened very carefully his utterances in Gikuyu language and wonder why he has not been arrested! This man is capable of causing major ethnic wars between the Gikuyu and Luo people. The man is illiterate. Kenya is a unique country made up of over 40 distinct micro-nations.

Uhuru is also a mediocre leader who couldn't have made it politically on his own without the hand of dictator, murderer, thief, and criminal toroitich arap moi! Uhuru should have ordered the arrest of Kuria immediately he said words that can bring instability to the many good people of Kenya.

Solution: All public meetings must be conducted in Kiswahili. The elections must be postponed in order to reconstruct a new election agency devoid of mediocrity as seen in the current IEBC. Kenya desperately needs a competent leader. Neither Raila nor Uhuru can fill the current vacuum of exemplary leadership

Chebukati is in a dicey situation no matter how you look at it. However his erratic ways of a besieged man cannot be ignored. Commissioners need to come out strong and hold him accountable-this is not a one man guitar show! it is about the great, most important and strategic country of believers, doers and achievers south of the Sahara and north of limpopo-as it were. I wish to claim that our political system is clogged with lawyers. It is time other professionals put their mark in the destiny of this great nation.
