Suspect in the Rape and Murder of a 23-Year-Old Kenyan Waitress Arrested

Joseph Kinyua Murimi, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of 23-year-old hotel worker Velvine Nungari Kinyanjui has been arrested.
Murimi is said to have met Velvine at Ruiru’s Destiny Park where she worked as a waitress and asked her out on a date two days later.
On February 23rd, the suspect picked Velvine at Kirigiti and drove to Q West Restaurant in Kahawa West for drinks and later to Kijito restaurant on Kamiti Road.
The two later proceeded to Sinnot Hotel in Kiamumbi where they booked a room at 10:30 pm but Murimi left an hour and a half later.
He allegedly told a hotel attendant that he could not spend the night there since he was a married man and that he was leaving Velvine in the room to rest as she was tired. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect left with Velvine’s mobile phone.
The next day, Velvine used the hotel’s phone to call a female friend, requesting her to come with another person and take her to the hospital.
The two hired a taxi and took Velvine to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital and later filed a report of the incident at Kiamumbi Police Station.
Velvine spent several days at the hospital undergoing treatment for spine-related complications and cervical fractures but she died on March 9th.
An autopsy conducted on March 11th revealed that she developed compression fractures on her vertebral column and succumbed to collapse of the lungs.
Before Velvine died, Murimi had been charged with rape and released on a Sh100,000 cash bail.
On Friday, a Kiambu court allowed police to hold the suspect for 10 more days pending the completion of investigations and arraignment to plead to murder charges.
Velvine was buried on March 17th in Saba Saba, Murang’a County.

This incident wasn't a rape case, but the two have agreed to have sexual affairs, for without any agreement, they shouldn't have booked and entered into an Hotel room for what was supposedly be an exciting night. However, no matter how they played sex, murder occured. But despite the nature of matter, what had happened is a just murder, which is an offense and punishable by Law

The video shows her really cozy and rubbing herself to the man. The man is standoffish...like not comfortable with showing affection in public.. Whichever the case, he left with her phone, she had severe, fatal injuries.... so whether it was consensual, rape or halfway there, the girl died of the injuries. Glad she talked to her friends... That man, for whatever reason, murdered her. Why take her phone away?

@ James you seem to know more than what has been divulged in this piece. The article says the man was charged with RAPE.What reasons do you have to say it was not rape? Please tell us.
Your flimsy and pathetic reason does not hold in court of law.Merely sharing aroom is no consent for sexual activity. Iam fully aware of the thinking some men have, and it goes like this,"Itook you out, spend $$$SSH of money on you, therefore I should be rewarded with sex".We need to remind men that this kind of spending does not give them license to rape, which is a crime.THe good news ,if I can call it that is most men dont do that kind of thing.Usually courtship takes place in the hope that he might score...
At this point, the cops are mum.I guess they are still investigating. But what we should refrain from is acting like we have first hand information, when its merely guess work.

@James, against your will against the law. Being in a hotel room with the lady does not mean she agreed to have sex.

Police should have put him to death. Why arrest him for court appearance, bond, bail then he either disappears or bribe judge/prosecutors or witnesses. If impossible,he bribes the Afandis in jail to “DIE” like Sonko. From there after everyone forgets,Drunkard(Kinyua) Digger(Murimi) becomes for Mathira MP,Nyeri senator then governor.Kama kawaida hizi viti yote haina maana ni ya kuuda pesa.
