Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has described President Ruto’s performance in his first 100 days in power as below average, saying he has failed to honor the promises he made during the campaign period.
In a statement on Thursday, Odinga accused Ruto’s administration of pulling more Kenyans out of the frying pan and throwing them into the flames, adding that the rays of hope for change are slowly dying down.
"These have been 100 days on the road to nowhere. Kenyans are worse off than they were during the campaigns when UDA promises flowed," said Odinga.
Odinga further noted that there have been no signs of improvement in the economy or the cost of living since Ruto assumed power 100 days ago, giving his administration a rating of four out of 10.
“During the run-up to the August elections, it was agreed that the incoming administration’s top priority would be restoring the economy to health and lowering the cost of living for Kenyans. However, in these first 100 days of the UDA administration, these issues have hardly received the attention that Kenyans had expected,” he added.
Odinga further accused Ruto’s administration of taking away even the little that Kenya was offering its vulnerable, adding that nothing inspires confidence in the future or points to better days.
He cited the withdrawal of subsidies for fuel, electricity, unga, and school fees, as well as the termination of the cash transfer program for the elderly and the Linda Mama program, which offered maternity services to mothers who were economically disadvantaged.
“The government has effectively pulled the life support from the mouths of millions of Kenyans and left them on their own…Where Kenyans expected and deserved a massive stimulus package to bail them out of the devastating economic circumstances, they got hit with the cancelation of the subsidies that had cushioned millions from the pain," said Odinga.
"The government is not as efficient as the times require. There is too much incoherence, too many contradictions on critical issues. Hope has faded. Overturning the rules and policies of the previous administration, despite having no plans of its own, is probably the UDA administration’s biggest 100-day accomplishment," he said.
"This is a below-average regime. On a scale of 1-10, we would grade the regime at four points."

Kimiti should first criticize Wako,Tobiko,Ocampo,Bensunda and so-called human rights groups for deliberately avoiding to prosecute muuaji Raila with killing 1300 Kenyans in 07/08 PEV.He also lies about being former sec gen of civil servant union. He also opposes the sale of KQ which means he receives loot share dividends from it’s looters.
@ Dr. I saac Mewton, this withdrawal of high profile cases has me scratching my head. Never in the history of Kenya have we seen such rapid flurry of criminals being"set free".
It has been argued that it is due to the weak foundation on governmental institutions that we see corruption persist. In this case the finger point to the judicial system. What a worthless DPP we have!
Talking about corruption, in the wake of the just ended world cup where Kylian Mbappe won the golden shoe, his father has revealed that despite his son being born in France, he was willing to pay for Cameroon till government officials approached him with demand for bribe. If true, and I dont see why Wilfred Mbeppe, the father should lie, Cameroon lost an opportunity to land one of the best soccer players of our times.I guess also to cameroon is again for France, corruption not withstanding.
Anyway, are we going to see mass protest,or have we resigned to this fate of inaction, hoping for a miracle? Why is law society of Kenya so silent in the midst of these irregularities?
Dr. Newt WSR has not withdrawn anyone’s case. It’s the independent judiciary which is releasing people who were politically implicated or hurriedly arrested for the same purposes of political expediency. Well some of the allegations could be true but due to the way the cases were hurriedly initiated, courts cannot find enough evidence to sustain prosecution.
@&newt - Corruption - that is the ultimate path all Kenyans desire to go! Corruption is sweet to a lot Kenyans; no accountability is the beast of the day. The voters went for Ruto because they wanted a corrupt president with low moral consciousness.
Kenyans would have voted for Raila if they wanted corruption to end. I like your logic but I don't buy it one bit.
I didn't expect any positive energy from Raila anyway. An MP for 20 years and nothing out of it; a prime minister after causing chaos and then forcing a handshake. Riding on other people's accomplishments. Before you bozos reply, mnipe facts zake si zile ATI alikuwa jela, that was his own doing.
If RAILA Didn't have POSITIVE Energy: He would Already be Dead; Democracy in Kenya Would be Dead too.
Anyway:
I give Ruto 1 out of 10. "He ain't Done nothing Yet". Ni kutanga-tanga, kUKOROFIshasha, na KuCHUKIa tu. Hakuna change anaFANYA isipoKUWA kuKALIA hicho KiKETI.
Raila’s democracy was left at YAYA in Kilimani by Cherela 4 gangsters. His other democracy was buried with Oginga after he,Muchawi refused to apologize and seek the lifting of parental curse.Yet another is in the graves of those he has killed since 1982 to infinity.
Pppian up until 2017, Raila had been singing democracy. But then when he handshaked Uhuru, this democracy calls were dead for the next four years. He stopped complaining not because anything changed for the common man but simply that something changed for him. There’s nothing democracy that Raila has been fighting in Kenya other than his self interests.
2001 Moi appoints Raila into his cabinet and his democratic calls were put in hold. Kibakis nusu mkate, the democratic cries were put away.
Let no one lie to you that Raila is fighting for anyone common man. It’s about what can benefit by himself.
You have said it
Plain and clear
It’s about his stomach not others
Now that he missed it he has to complain
He is a none starter and will never see any good in Ruto
And who the hell is the peoples conman?!? The twice coup d’etat leader in our republic, the perennial loser narcissist, the cult leader of groom and doom, chaos, mayhem, violence, corruption, impunity, lies, and poverty! A lifelong thief! Etc etc
4 of 10 is Being too Nice to Ruto. He should Even score 0.5 of 10.
@ Dr. Isaac Newt....
The truth definitely hurts. What Samoei and Rigathi have done in less than four months have made them follow the footsteps of the former president of the USA Dr. Donald Trump.
They will pack their bags and permanently be forced to retire from politics come 2027. They will be the last students of the late Toroitich to be in any position of power.
Raila, I have voted for you many times and I respect you as a life-long opposition leader. However, let us be truthfully honest. It takes a long time to turn a ship around. We all have just one Kenya and it is to our best interests for Ruto to succeed. Criticize him after 3 years.
With your handshake why did you run down the economy with your partner for 5 yrs? Then expect a turn around in 100 days. Go revive Nyanza economy if you are very smart.
What about Raila’s 5 years in handshake government and 5 years as a prime minister, what did he do for Kenyan’s? Please don’t tell me reforms.
The lord of poverty is at it again. All his lieutenants have come out in the open to declare outright election defeat. I don’t know who is still lying to him. Elections were won in the constituency level. All numbers are available for verification. Bomas IEBC had the only duty to tally.
WSR has so far done more than any other Kenyan president has in so far 100 days. Best results are coming out shortly.
By withdrawing corruption cases of friends, relatives and supporters, Ruto has messed all the prospects of war on corruption in Kenya, and he has set the Nation on the path to total ruins.
