UN Faults Ruto's Gov't Over Police Brutality During Protests

The UN Human Rights Office has called for investigations into the police brutality reported during the recent Azimio protests.

Speaking on Friday, spokesperson Jeremy Laurence reported that 23 people died and dozens sustained injuries in the Azimio-led demonstrations. Laurence condemned the disproportionate use of force by the police and highlighted that those who are responsible must be held responsible. He also noted that Azimio had announced plans for protests in the coming week and reminded the authorities that they must uphold the rights of Kenyans as enshrined in Article 37 of the Constitution.

The spokesperson urged the government and opposition to engage in dialogue and address their issues for the sake of the people. On Thursday, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported that nine people had been killed by gunshot wounds on the Wednesday protests, four in Mlolongo, two in Kitengela, one along Juja Road and one in Emali in Makueni County.

Meanwhile, Unicef has condemned the use of tear gas on children during the anti-government protests. In a statement on Friday, the UN agency urged the government and the opposition to take necessary steps to guarantee the security and welfare of children throughout the nation. It also emphasized that children should never be exposed to any kind of danger and that their right to education must be defended.

UNICEF has declared its dedication to partnering with local and national entities to make sure that children throughout the country are safe. The statement follows Wednesday's tragic incident that saw police throw tear gas into a classroom filled with children from KihumbuIni Primary School in Kangemi, where more than 50 pupils were taken to the hospital. The majority of them were affected by the fumes, but fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

@ Mzalendo:

Had Wafula Chebukati read Chapter 6 of our New Constitution, neither Brother Raila nor Brother Samoei would have eligible to run for an elective public office.

Oh please! Kwani Kenyans are goats. They did not vote for him, why are they going out to riot across the nation? Simple, because Zakayo and his band of thieves are making life impossible. Kwa hivyo…Kenyans come out.

In 2007 after the failed and stolen election, old men, children, and women sought refuge in a church located in Eldoret called Kiambaa where they felt safe and secure that nothing unusual would happen to them in a place of worship! Wow! Were they mistaken!
The church was burnt down and everybody hiding there lost their lives.
What has happened since then? Absolutely nothing. So far, no one has ben arrested, prosecuted and sentenced according to the atrocities committed.

The current president Brother Samoei is from the area and must have some notion or clue of what transpired and those involved. What is taking him so long to take action against all those criminals in this sad affair.

In Israel, they are still looking for anyone who participated in the holocaust over 70 yeses ago. This is important for the future generations of Israel. That is, every effort is currently being employed to bring to justice of events that transpired many years ago.
All Kenyans should not forget the Kiambaa Holocaust.

I am challenging the current president, the cabinet member of Internal Security Brother Kithure Kindiki and the Attorney General Brother Muturi to set up a special commission to bring to justice all the Kiambaa Church participants so that the future generations of Kenyans will think twice before committing a similar offence again.

Violence will not solve the economic crisis in any case it is going to make it worse. As much as I do not like Ruto and gachagua, with poverty and hopelessness looming, this is just going to make things worse. Karua should have more sense!

There is not a single press release from UNHRC or UNICEF. And I guess the writer forgot UNESCO. It's maandamano and propaganda.
