IEBC Declares NASA's "Adopt-a-Polling-Station" Plan Unlawful

John Wanjohi Jul 26, 2017

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has told National Super Alliance (NASA) that their “adopt a polling station” plan is unlawful. Speaking on Wednesday, Electoral Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati insisted that they will only allow one agent per political party at the polling stations on election day.

He said that the Commission will kick out any person with no accreditation from the centers and stations.

The Commission said it would be impractical to have five agents in every station, saying that it would create commotion, overcrowding and possible chaos at the polling centers.

The move will likely meet opposition from NASA who have constantly said they will protect their votes by all means.

Meanwhile, the Council of Governors (CoG) led by Chairman Josphat Nanok has asked IEBC to disclose the actual number of ballot papers printed for every polling station including serial numbers for each ballot paper in all the 47 counties.

The Council said that the Commission should make public the above details as a part of ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
