IEBC Chairman Sidelines CEO Ezra Chiloba in New Team to Conduct Repeat Election

Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba has once again been left out of a new project team unveiled by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati to preside over the October 26th repeat election.

In a new 7-member team, Chebukati also pushed aside two other IEBC officials.

Speaking at media briefing on Friday, Chebukati said that officials facing accusations of bungling the cancelled August 8th poll will not be part of the new team charged to oversee the fresh election.

Alongside Chiloba, Nancy Kariuki and Silas Rotich, who had been included in a previously announced project team to manage the new presidential election by commission chairman, Wafula Chebukati have been sidelined.

Those who have retained their status include Marjan Hussein Marjan and David Towett, who will head operations. Salome Oyugi will head the legal and compliance team, while Sydney Namulungu will be the head of tallying centres. Tabitha Mutemi will be in charge of the commission’s communication and outreach docket.

Albert Gogo has been retained as the head of ICT, while Agatha Wahome will handle finance and procurement.

IEBC Chairman Chebukati said the new changes are part of his pledge that the commission would effect major changes to poll officials ahead of the October election.

Last month, Chebukati had announced a six-member project team to oversee the repeat election, where Chiloba had also been sidelined.
