Kenya Supreme Court to Rule on Presidential Petitions on Monday

The Supreme Court is scheduled to deliver its decision on the petitions challenging President Uhuru's October 26th victory on Monday.

Speaking during the closure of the hearings of the two petitions against the October poll on Thursday, Chief Justice said the judges will read their verdict on Monday.

The hearings came to an end following two days of oral submissions, where legal teams representing the petitioners, the three respondents and two interested parties made submissions before six Judges.

“We want to thank you for your courtesy to each other and the court except for a few remarks here and there and we want to encourage this kind of conduct to be continued,” Chief Justice David Maraga said.

Maraga led her Deputy Philomena Mwilu, Lady Justice Njoki Ndung’u, Justices Jackton Ojwang’, Isaac Lenaola and Smokin Wanjala in hearing the two petitions.

The first petition was filed by former Kilome MP Harun Mwau and listed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), its chairman Wafula Chebukati and President Uhuru as respondents.

The second petition was lodged by civil society members Khelef Khalifs and Njonjo Mue and listed electoral commission, Chebukati, Nasa and President Uhuru as respondents.

NASA was thrown out as respondents in the petitions during Tuesday's pretrial conference following objection by President Uhuru's legal team. Presidential candidate

Ekuru Aukot and Attorney General Githu Muigai were admitted as interested parties in the case.
