The Kenyan government has successfully evacuated 63 citizens from Lebanon amid escalating tensions stemming from Israel's military campaign against Hezbollah.
The repatriation effort saw 40 individuals arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, followed by an additional 23 on Friday. Spearheading this operation, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs collaborated with various government entities and the International Organization for Migration to ensure a seamless evacuation process. According to departmental communications, teams worked continuously to safeguard Kenyan nationals in Lebanon and facilitate their homeward journey.
This recent evacuation builds upon earlier efforts that brought 39 Kenyans home earlier this month. Prior to their departure, the evacuees received comprehensive counseling services from a multi-agency team. Government representatives, primarily from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, along with family members, welcomed these nationals at JKIA. Through official statements, the Kenyan government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its citizens abroad.
This dedication extends beyond evacuation assistance to include broader support measures, implemented through partnerships between state and non-state actors. The security situation in Lebanon has deteriorated significantly as Israeli forces intensify their operations against Hezbollah, conducting both aerial and ground campaigns that have resulted in numerous casualties and widespread displacement. In response to these developments, Kenyan authorities have accelerated their evacuation initiatives.
The government has revealed that over 7,000 Kenyans currently stranded in Lebanon have registered for evacuation, with additional groups scheduled to return in phases. Given the volatile circumstances, officials have issued advisory notices discouraging travel to Lebanon.
