New NCIC Vice-Chair Fatuma Tabwara Collapses, Dies at Nephew’s Wedding Ceremony
National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) vice-chairperson Fatuma Tabwara has passed away.
Fatuma allegedly collapsed at a wedding at Bowa village, Kwale County on Sunday morning and was rushed to Diani Beach Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival, according to Nominated MCA Hanifa Mwajirani. She was waiting to receive the bride and show her where the groom (her nephew) was waiting.
Fatuma had only been appointed to the position by President Kenyatta on November 20th this year. Prior to her appointment to NCIC, Tabwara served as a political advisor to Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya. She unsuccessfully contested for the Kwale Women Representative seat on a PDR party ticket.
Fatuma becomes the second NCIC vice-chair to pass on while in office. NCIC’s first vice-chair Mary Onyango died in March 2012 after a long battle with breast cancer.
Fatuma held a Master's degree in Education Planning and Administration from Mount Kenya University and a Bachelor's degree in Education from Kenyatta University. She will be buried later on Sunday as per the Islamic tradition.
