Nairobi Ranked Top City in Africa in English Proficiency

A new study has found Nairobi to be the city with the most English proficient speakers and writers in Africa.

The Kenyan capital city scored 61.94 percent in terms of knowledge of spoken and written English, according to the English Proficiency Index (EPI) 2019.

The EPI index, which ranked 100 countries and regions, indicates that only two African cities made it to the high proficiency group. The two cities are Nairobi (61.94 percent) and Lagos (Nigeria) with a score of 58.47 percent.

On the global stage, Kenya’s English language skills ranked 18th, the second-highest on the continent after South Africa that ranked sixth in the world.

Nigeria and Ethiopia ranked 29th and 63rd respectively while Libya ranked the lowest. About 13 African countries participated in the survey.

Kenya, Sudan, Côte d’Ivoire, Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, and Paraguay were among the new entrants in the 2019 survey.

The scores were determined through analyzing results from 2.3 million adults who took an online English test in 2018 via EF Standard English Test.

This Nairobi thing (as the Higghest) has been RIGGED as has been the usual Norm in Kenya beginning at KICC back in 2007 by Martha Karua: Corrup thru' and through! It smells a SHAM. Why? Because if this News article says here that "On the global stage, Kenya’s English language skills ranked 18th, the SECOND-highest on the continent after South Africa that ranked 6th in the world", then some South African City should be ranked HIGHEST in Africa; not Nairobi. Anyway .......

@ Mugikuyu. You are right, Kenyan mind is still in the colonial chains. What ashame. I still say,we change Lake Victoria to Lake Kisumu,or K'ogalo...
Mobutu had agood idea of authenticating african names, but he did it the wrong way-by forcing the congolese to adapt them. He should have taught them to be proud of african names first by showing them that it was not necessary to chance just to please mzungu.

To the colonizers, this is a huge achievement having suppressed and destroyed African languages. To the African ( the colonized) in the year 2020, this is a big shame and we should be working hard to move away from English, a foreign language and invest in our languages. " To speak is to live for another". Our leaders and us are still stammering in a foreign language. What a shame!!!

In other words, Nairobi is 62% indoctrinated. By the time it gets to 100% everybody in Nai will be light skinned by association or bleaching.

Leads in English proficiency and joblessness. That's expected from the loads of graduates that universities mill out every year. Mastery of a foreign language does not equate brilliance or intelligence. It's evidence of colonized minds.
