Ida Odinga Apologizes After Remarks on Regulation of Churches Cause a Stir

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga has apologized for her remarks on the regulation of churches.

Ida caused a stir after she urged the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) to regulate churches and weed out those not run by trained evangelists.

“We want Kenyans to subscribe to religions that are formally registered and not those whose belief systems are commodified. It is also important that we conduct training for all those who minister the word of God,” Ida was quoted.

She was speaking during the launch of the Christian Book by Archbishop Emeritus Habbakuk Abogno in Kisumu on Saturday.

In a statement on Monday, Ida withdrew her remarks, saying that her position on the training of preachers was blown out of context by the media reports circulating online

“It has come to my realization that my comments haven’t sat well with some members of the church. I sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused as I meant no harm to any person,” reads the statement.

Ida stressed that she is a committed believer in Jesus Christ and is dedicated to promoting the growth of the church for a better Kenyan society.

“I reiterate that training only makes the service of preaching better and promotes the ministration of the word of God. As a committed believer in Jesus Christ, I understand that preaching is a calling and anyone can be touched to administer the word of God. This is a fact I have appreciated for a long time and I have sat and listened to many preachers eloquently and diligently deliver life-changing sermons,” she adds.

It's satan's DIVIDE and RULE tactics. This is Why I don't Go to Church nowadays. I just Live by Faith; and LOVING my Neighbors; obeying the Greatest COMMANDMENT of GOD. NB:Many of these Preachers have No calling; they're Fake, Imposters, and Busy bodies. Especially those that Travel from Nigeria to Prey on Kenyan women (in the name of Praying for them Women looking for Husbands). And these Stupid women Believe them.

No need to apologize Ida. We need to weed out all those foreign churches spreading white jesus message aka white supremacy and those stealing from their flocks calling it tithing. But first lets start with those in bed with one conman called William Samoei Ruto;those churches enabling him to unload his loot for sanitization.

You might be right but can the world sys regulate faith matters? Will Raila have to ask waganga what church is real? Know the word. Let bible prophecy on false ministers come to pass. Let wheat and rates grow until harvest. Only communist can regulate but communist belief is that govt is God. Communist is all about control. Shetani ashindwe

All foreign religions whose followers participated in "slave trade" and responsible for the physical and emotional/mental agony of Africans in Africa and diaspora should all be outlawed.

I don't see the wrong she did. Truth be told be told churches are kiosks in Kenya with aim of making money. That's why they celebrate politicians when they come

Speaking like a layman,I am curious why preachers would need training to spread the world of God. To suggest otherwise is an acknowledgement of their "intellectual limitation..."Is it not clear what Christians are required of them? If not, just following the 10 commandments would be half the knowledge needed,in my opinion.
The flock should also be encouraged to think critically and just not follow blindly.

The first time I agree with max. The flock refuse to search scripture on their own. A person who knows scripture will not be deceived. Govt must not oversee training of any faith leaders. God anoints His ministers. Edu helps obviously. Raila can regulate waganga his friends

Wisdom detected from yours truly, Maxiley.
This is but just a tip of the iceberg. One could have assumed that Ida come up with this out of nowhere. It’s coming out as one of the many warnings to face the country should she be the First Lady.

No body want to hear the truth these days! Of course there are several untrained thieves who commodify the word of God for material gains! Where is Kanyari?

You don’t teach something you have not been trained to do! Kenya got too many fake preachers who have turned out to cons! It has become difficult to believe a preacher on the pulpit these days!

They need to be regulated, trained and certified to avoid confusing those who don’t know any better! And there many confused folks out there - both illiterates and educated! And in between!

I think mama Ida is right on this one!

Who are the true preachers now we know who the fake ones are? I thought that the moment you preach that the saints rose from their graves when Jesus passed on, that is already fake. Because if they rose from their graves, did they return to their graves soon after or they are now alive forever!!!

Musa (not verified)     Tue, 02/01/2022 @ 03:40am

Yes you are a laymen alright! You should not be speaking because you don’t know! How do you know 10 commandments existed if you have not read them?

Yusuf (not verified)     Tue, 02/01/2022 @ 08:25am

She is right. Pastors need some kind of formal training just as Imams in major cities with large congregations are generally to have formally studied Islam in a theological school and have displayed leadership in the community. Too many criminals operating as pastors on Kenyan churches!!!

Church members should be taught there are 613 laws not only tithe and first fruit. Everybody collecting tithe have to do DNA test to show how their grandfather was Aaron. That the law in the old testament.

There is meat where sycophancy exists....and when rivalry exists, the grass suffers. Ida's pockets must have shrunk with babasy sycophancy shrinking... Churches are dipping their dirty fingers in the loot that went ...you know where....

I think our future First Lady was way off on this one. We have freedom of worship in Kenya and government should play no role in the regulation of spiritual matters. My family and I pray to trees and the forces of nature. Is she telling me that trees, wind, rain, sleet, or tornados should be regulated?

@Mkenya Halisi expose the fallacy .Yes, why should we accept mzungu's religion on the basis of his words alone?Like I said else where, our african religions serve the same purpose mzungus religion does. Just because he had a bigger gun,and sprinkled afew trinkets to greedy chiefs is no reason to abscond the religion of our ancestors. Again I say, it is very arrogant of mzungu to say that our religions are "inferior" and that his is the true religion. There is no proof what so everthat our religion is inferior. If I broke my leg now, no religion will perform a miracle to make my leg well again. Not only me, the sinner. even if the Holy father, the pope broke his leg, prayers wont heatl it. All those miracles we read about Jesus performing cannot be proven.Just ask yourself why they are not happening now?

Mkenya halisi (not verified)     Wed, 02/02/2022 @ 12:59am

hehehe very true @Maxiley I like when u give this example of the leg??Wr so much brainshed to an extent we don’t believe in ourselves as Africans.Ask yourself since then the Christianity was brainwashed in us wr still poor n messed up mentally which served the colonialism n the so called church(Christianity). We could have kept our African Gods whether they r in that mugumo(Fig tree) the luhya God etc n the Gikuyu God who still lives up in the mount Kenya

there are too many self appointed bishops , prophets etc it is a business some are run by husband and wife as (bishop and prophetess or pastor) . i agree with Ida belief is a matter of choice but most of the poor folk who cannot read the bible are manipulated by the so called bishops / priest or whatever name the give themselves i changed to nishireni daishoni buddism and
i love it . many gods and no money issues and the teaching is about love and acceptance and being good here on earth to others
