President Uhuru Kenyatta’s niece, Nana Gecaga, has been appointed the acting managing director of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Nana, who is sister of the President’s personal assistant Jomo Gecaga, was handed the job on Monday after being appointed by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala.

“Prior to her appointment, Ms Gecaga worked as Marketing and Special Programmes advisor to the Cabinet Secretary having been seconded from the KICC where she worked as Head of Marketing,” a press release to media houses read in part.

The Cabinet Secretary credited her for bringing international celebrities to Kenya adding that it showcased the country’s tourism products.

“In 2009, Ms Gechaga was instrumental in securing the MTV Africa Music Awards held in Kenya that earned the country a lot of fame locally and internationally,” the statement read.

Nana’s appointment will hold until the position is competitively and substantially filled.

What I don't understand with these so called THE RICH FAMILIES OF KENYA, why are there so many jobless people in these families? If KENYATTAS were as rich as they claim, why not give someone like this woman a job at Brookside Milk or open a business for her.......RICH FAMILIES open companies, businesses and shops for there families....They don't sit there and wait for handout jobs from 'FRIEND'........Kenyatta are just CHEAP RICH people........Like Nyachae family, how does a family like that have 9 grown up's who are jobless sit and wait for 'RUDISHAA MKONO JOBS'???....Like seriously, all of you 9 grown ups, none of you can open even a shop-dukA??Grow a damn business, run your own company....All of you,SERIKALI SAIDIA???Uhuru Kenyatta, you family pia SERIKALI SAIDIA ,SINA KAZI???.......None of you can create a jobs for your own family members??...That's why education and exposure is important because people from a family like KENYATTA should be owning their own businesses not lining up to be 'awarded' goverment jobs......If she you can't give her a job at Brookside why are you shoving her down our throats??Hata sisi hatumtakii..

Nepotism:
the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.........If you want to Nepotise. Uhuru Kenyatta, you do it in your family buainess like the rest of humanity not public offices........Regardless of whether she is qualified or not.Nepotism is corruption . ....TAJIRI maskini mentality.Style up.

Yes this appointment reeks of nepotism but I don't have a problem with it especially if she is qualified. What I have a problem with is the optics of some of the president's recent appointments including this one. Why reinforce the narrative that he is a tribalist (like his father) re: disbursement of "matunda ya uhuru"? Why blunt his "war on corruption and 'monstrous economic crimes' " by appointing the likes of Chris Kirubi and Frank Kimemia - both implicated in -- monstrous economic crimes -- to the very institutions (parastatals) they are accused of plundering? This president's 1st year in office has been a major disappointment on very many levels. I am curious to see what 2017 brings.

@Osiro....Public office is not family business. Some of us come from families with people who have all the necessary credentials and experience for almost all these goverment jobs.Does that mean we hire only our family members to run the goverment??....

Moi said "NITAFUATA NYAYO ZA MZEE" which he did by looting just like expired Kenyatta. Is Uhuru also following RAO's footsteps of looting and nepotism? How come he is appointing his relatives like Rails who appointed his two brothers' in-law ambassadors in Washington, US on two occasions and sister to Los Angeles office? He also appointed another in law ambassador to Cairo and nominated elder bro as MP?

Lets keep this simple and save the vitriol for one tribe. Otherwise it will destroy the chorus some of us like to sing and have been unable to change. Agreed my friend?

The "RICHNESS" does not exist by default. It requires strategically placed insiders for protection and maintenance to perpetuity.

If "Richness" could be sustained in any other way, none of the big names would be in politics in Kenya. The salaries are peanuts but trade off in protection and influence peddling is immeasurable.

Someone has to sabotage the public institutions, and keep the taxman at bay, for the family business empires to flourish.

If artificial political protection is removed, the cash flow wanes and soon all the assets are gone as well.

@iphone, Osiro, et.al., which parts of the following statements didn't you understand: "Nana was handed the job on Monday after being appointed by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala. Prior to her appointment, Ms Gecaga worked as Marketing and Special

Hi, @KanyariBayo, two wrong don't make a right! Do I need to expand on that? In the present, it stinks to hear of corruption or nepotism. Of course if the lady is qualified, that's good ,'butt' the fact that she's Kenyatta's relative, it doesn't make sense. Nobody else is qualified to hold the same position? Rao did what he did, but it doesn't mean that the president or anybody else has to do it. Appointing Kikuyu s only or Kalenjenis only to plum jobs doesn't make it right. I am a Kikuyu, I eat my own sweat.

If somebody behaves stupid , it won't make any sense to behave the same to be seen like you're revaging. Equally, Kenyatta or the leaders should realise that Kenya belongs to all Kenyan citizens, irrespective of tribal or political affiliations. Not religious either.

We need to reason together as a country, and push our country forward.

Most Kenyans work very hard. Merit should be a thing to consider, not who is related to whom. period. Good nite bro.

@Kenya.....9 family members?9? kwani kisii has no other families with educated people just Nyachae??.......Hii Nyachae kwanza after all these years bado SERIKALI SAIDIA??Can't create there own job??.....

I know we disagree on 99.99% of all issues and can't let you run your tyrant on an innocent woman who just happened to be a relative of UK. If we have to fight corruption and nepotism, we should learn to distinguish between the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Even if Ms. Gecaga was given a job at Brookside as you suggested, still you will have criticized the appointment. This is who you are with the likes of Osiro, No Matusi, Leo etc,.
My take on all this; if some Kenyan 'families" have been supportive to the government and not disrespectful to the HOS, maybe their sons or daughters would have been considered for this plum jobs. Who wants to hire someone who will come and sabotage a company? Who wants to hire people who cannot demonstrate leadership, dependability, and independence? And why complain about an appointment on a building bearing the name of one person/ family you hate most?? Get a life.

Cool down and listen. Lets keep this simple and save the vitriol for one tribe. Otherwise it will destroy the chorus some of us like to sing and have been unable to change. Agreed my friend?
