Moses Kuria, Johnstone Muthama Charged With Incitement

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama have been charged in court separately with incitement to violence.

The court ordered the duo to sign Sh1 million bond, which they will surrender to the State if they fail to adhere by the terms of the bond.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi l earlier warned Kuria and Muthama against "misbehaving", but the protested and maintained they were still innocent until proven guilty.

Muthama was the first to be charged with making inflammatory statements against President Uhuru Kenyatta, but denied the charge and was released on Sh300,000 bond.

His lawyers James Orengo and John Khaminwa argued before the court that the charge against their Muthama is “ridiculous’ and the Sh1million bond is punishment without trial.

On the other hand, Moses Kuria also denied the charge of making abusive remarks against National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his wife Ida.

The court rejected his request to be granted personal bond, arguing that he had spent a substantial amount of money in the August 8th elections campaigns.

The court freed him on bond of Sh500,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000.

Addressing Jubilee MPs at a parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday, President Uhuru cautioned leaders against making inciting speeches.

“Jubilee is a national party and it represents all Kenyans of every ethnicity, religion and region,” said the President Kenyatta.

“Don’t be drawn into the politics of tribal animosity. We are very firm on this,” the President said.
