Chief Inspector of Police Kennedy Omondi Arrested for Impersonating Immigration Officers, Demanding Sh2 Million Bribe

Chief Inspector of Police Kennedy Omondi has been arrested for allegedly impersonating immigration officers.

Omondi was arrested on Friday by Flying Squad officers alongside three other suspects identified as Stanilus Otieno, Eddie Obwaka, and Boniface Omengi.

"The arrests followed a report made by the complainants whose passports and other documents had been confiscated by the said ‘immigration officers.’" the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) says in a statement.

Detectives say the four were pounced while attempting to extort Sh2 million from unsuspecting Kenyans after allegedly confiscating their passports and documents.

Omondi and his accomplices allegedly posed as immigration officers while confiscating the travel documents from victims.

Victims say the four were initially asking for Sh10 million before lowering it to Sh2 million. Two other suspects managed escaped.

"They were going to collect Sh2 million when they were nabbed by detectives," DCI adds.

A pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from their hideout.
