Kidero to Vie for Homa Bay Governor’s Seat as an Independent Candidate

John Wanjohi Apr 03, 2022

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has announced he will vie for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

This is after ODM issued Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga with a nomination certificate to contest for the seat in the forthcoming elections after all seven aspirants eyeing the party’s ticket stepped down and endorsed her candidature.

Citing numerous calls from Homa Bay residents to run for the county’s top seat, Kidero, who was seeking the ODM party ticket, says he will not drop his bid.

“In response to your cries for better governance and restoration of your sovereign jurisdiction, I will offer myself as an independent candidate for the position of Homa Bay County Governor,” Kidero said in a statement.

“I am overwhelmed by your unconditional support. I will be on the ballot on August 9th, 2022.  Take my word - I will not let you down!”

On Friday, Kidero denied being part of a meeting that saw Wanga handed the ODM ticket through consensus.

“I was not invited to the meeting and I am not in agreement. In consensus, everybody must agree. I will be exploring alternative avenues to run as a Governor,” he said.

Kidero, nonetheless, reiterated his support for the ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“I am not fighting Odinga. My aspiration has been motivated by the people who want me to transform the economy of this county,” he added.
