Poll: Ruto Leads Presidential Race as One in Five Voters Remain Undecided

Martin Olage Jul 13, 2026

President William Ruto leads the race for the 2027 General Election with 32 percent support, according to a new Infotrak survey of 3,000 respondents.

The poll places him well ahead of his closest rivals, while a significant share of voters remain undecided. The survey shows Ruto holding a clear national lead, although no opposition candidate has emerged with enough support to mount a strong challenge on their own.

His 32 percent rating reflects a comfortable advantage over Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who records 13 percent. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i each receive 12 percent.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former Chief Justice David Maraga all remain in single digits, while PLP leader Martha Karua records 1 percent. Ruto performs slightly better among male respondents than female respondents. The survey finds that 34 percent of men support him, compared with 30 per cent of women.

The poll also highlights regional differences in voter support. Ruto records his highest support in North Eastern at 59 percent, followed by Rift Valley at 46 percent. He also secures 40 percent support in Nyanza. Kalonzo leads in Eastern Kenya with 40 per cent, compared with Ruto’s 19 percent.

In Central Kenya, Matiang’i records 19 percent support, although more than a quarter of respondents in the region remain undecided. Party affiliation continues to shape voter preferences. Ruto receives 87 per cent support among UDA supporters, while Kalonzo is backed by 89 per cent of Wiper supporters.

Matiang’i records 60 per cent support among Jubilee supporters. Within Gachagua’s DCP, only 24 percent of supporters favour him. Nationally, 18 percent of respondents remain undecided, with women more likely than men to say they have not chosen a candidate.

A further 3 per cent decline to disclose their preference. The survey also assessed possible running mates for Ruto. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is the preferred choice with 34 per cent support, including 41 percent in Central Kenya. Gladys Wanga follows with 11 per cent, while Hassan Joho, Anne Waiguru, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula all record single-digit support.

However, 37 percent of respondents say they are undecided on who should serve as Ruto’s deputy. On the opposition side, respondents were asked about possible joint tickets. A Kalonzo Musyoka and Edwin Sifuna ticket attracts 23 per cent support, making it the most popular combination.

A Kalonzo–Matiang’i ticket follows with 16 percent, while a Matiang’i–Kalonzo pairing receives 15 percent.
