IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe Disowns WhatsApp Chats Circulated Online

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Roselyn Akombe has disowned WhatsApp messages doing rounds on social media purportedly exposing communication between her and some politicians.

Akombe distanced herself from the messages, saying they are fake and meant to malign her for political gain.

“I categorically state that the said messages are false and do not represent my views as an impartial public servant," she said.

In a statement sent to the media, Dr Akombe said this was not the first time such accusations have been made against her and vowed that it will not deter her from carrying out her duty.

"This is not the first time this has happened and previous similar incidents have all been proven false," she stated.

She described the messages as efforts to negatively taint her name and that of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ahead of the fresh presidential poll slated for October 26th.

"It is sad that many Kenyans are still falling for such deception, which only serves to divide the country” he said.

Akombe demanded that full investigations be carried out to establish the source of the posts saying it amounts to cyber bullying and urged Kenyans to be vigilant over fake news.
