I'll Not Resign, Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri Vows Over Multi-Billion Shilling Maize Scandal

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has declared he will not relinquish his position despite pressure from political quarters over the latest fertilizer and maize scandals at his ministry.

Speaking on Saturday at Mumbi Girls’ High School in Murang’a, a seemingly aggrieved Kiunjuri said he will not be intimidated to resigning.

The CS noted that he was the one who raised alarm over the dubious dealings at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and wondered why he was being victimized yet he was the "whistleblower."

“These leaders who think they can threaten and intimidate the ministers should be told they have targeted the wrong person,” said the CS.

“We know they are defending the cartels in the Ministry and are against my efforts to clean the NCPB."

“Remember I was the first person to talk about the rot in the Ministry while they remained silent,” he said.

On Friday, a section of leaders drawn from the Rift Valley region demanded for resignation of Kiunjuri over the multi-billion shilling scam at his docket.

“Already farmers have borne the brunt of cartels and the Fall Armyworm. Mr Kiunjuri and his team should step aside immediately, “Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Janet Nangabo told the press.

The ministry last week sent five top managers of the board home, while more than 50 other officials are being probed over the scandal.
