Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has apologized to Kenyans living with albinism following his attack on Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura.
Junet, who claimed that Mwaura ‘bleached’ his skin to get a nomination slot to represent people living with disability in parliament, noted that his remarks were taken out of context and do not reflect his opinion on persons suffering from albinism.
“I want to apologize to people born with albinism. My comments in no way reflect my opinions of them as upstanding citizens of our county,” Junet said on Sunday.
He insisted that Senator Mwaura has been riding on the back of people living with disabilities to advance his own selfish agenda.
“My comments were directed at the rotten character of Isaac Mwaura who exploits his disability for personal gain and incitement of violence,” added Junet.
Junet, who doubles up as the National Assembly Minority Whip, came under fire from various quarters over the remarks considered derogatory.
A lobby group for persons living with disabilities condemned the utterances and demanded an apology from the ODM MP.
“Junet Mohamed should immediately withdraw and apologies for his rather unfortunate, demeaning, and derogatory remarks towards our leader Senator Isaac Mwaura if at all he deserves the title of an honorable member of parliament,” the lobby said in a statement.
The lobby argued Junet’s remarks were in contravention of articles 27, 54, and 81 of the Constitution, and provisions of the Persons with Disabilities Act.

I stand by earlier comments, 'POLITICS AT THEIR LOWEST '.
BUT ,NOT HATING; JUNET MIGHT HAVE A POINT.
Does mwaura not claim to a “muthungu”? He uses albinism to get a political pass. So what Junet said is nothing out in f the ordinary! Mwaura uses it to get political privileges!
No need to hit so below the belt no matter how much you disagree on matters.
Body shaming is so wimpy.
Almost sickening but not surprising.
So all the names in the list and why does Sonko suffer so much?
He’s an angel In comparison
Junet's remarks were despicable but kind of portrays what kind of leaders we elect. Basically a reflection of us.
I had respect for Mwaura but today he has forgotten why he was nominated in the first place. He should be spending his time speaking up for the disadvantaged from morning to night not politicking through and through.
Janet did not make any apologies here! He doubled down on the person or people with disabilities. Being disable does not mean one cannot express oneself.
Didn't Mwaura call himself "muthungu wa Ruiru", use a plagiarized image on his Facebook page and is he not the same individual who tried to throw his title around at the UN back in 2019. I don't agree with Junet but Mwaura has a habit of using albinism as a tool.
