NASA: Kiambu Leading in Number of Dead Voters

The National Super Alliance (NASA) says that the final voter register presented by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has over 400,000 people registered twice. NASA further alleges that dead voters were still in the ‘clean’ register, and cases where two voters are registered using the same national identity card exist.

IEBC has exonerated itself from the dead voters scuffle, saying that that according to the report given by KPMG, it is almost impossible to expunge all dead voters from the register as voters will die even on the eve of elections.

NASA in a letter dated July 7, 2017 asked IEBC to further those with registration anomalies before the General Election.  “The voter register in the IEBC website has 400,685 persons, who have been registered twice,” said the NASA campaign secretariat’s head of operations and delivery, Joe Ager.

NASA listed Kiambu County as the leading county with 4,217 dead persons in the voters' register.

IEBC has dismissed claims that individuals will be allowed to vote twice arguing that the electronic system of voting will not permit anyone to vote repeatedly. “It is not possible for a voter to vote twice, the voting will be electronic and the BVR kits will only capture a voter’s details once,” Chebukati said on Tuesday.
