The Inspiring Story of Buttler Omuchei, Who Runs a Trucking Business in the US

Buttler Omuchei, a Kenyan-born US citizen, has been successfully running his own truck and farm equipment business under the brand name, Bay2Bay Freight, for the past 11 years.

He imports his product line from Japan and distributes them throughout the country. Omuchei's success story started with playing football in Kakamega. Speaking during an interview with Daring Abroad, he reminisced about being a student at Kakamega High and a player for Western Stima, a team based in Kakamega town.

Omuchai flew to the US to pursue an accounting degree from the University of the District of Columbia in Washington DC. However, while enrolled, his football abilities caught the eye of the school's soccer coach, who subsequently presented him with a scholarship. The scholarship included stipends which made it easier for him to adjust to life in the foreign land. After completing his degree, he decided to pursue a Master's degree after which he secured jobs in some of the big companies in the US.

“I was playing football for Western Stima in Kakamega back at home so when I came to the US, I automatically got a scholarship that helped sustain me during the four years in college. I was also given a stipend that helped me find my footing. I joined Corporate America and started doing accounting. I became an accounting manager and a controller. I worked for some of the biggest companies in the US including Lockheed Martin for about eight years,” he said.

He decided to quit his job in 2012 and establish his own business, utilizing the knowledge he had acquired from different companies. He admits that running the business is not easy as he ran into multiple issues including monitoring the drivers and ensuring deliveries reach the customers in a timely manner. Omuchai gives back to his hometown of Kakamega by supporting students and contributing to three children's homes in the area, in collaboration with a nearby church.
