Kalonzo Musyoka Denies Ceding Nairobi Seats to DCP

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has rejected claims that his party agreed to cede Nairobi political seats to Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking at a Thanksgiving ceremony in Machakos County, Mr Musyoka described the allegations as deliberate misinformation aimed at creating rifts within the United Opposition. He said Wiper remains committed to working with its coalition partners in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.

“The narrative that Wiper has surrendered Nairobi to DCP is false. They are trying everything to create tensions between us,” he told supporters.

He added that coalition leaders are in discussion to maintain cohesion, noting that they intend to take a collective position on key issues. His remarks followed claims by Mr Gachagua that DCP had reached an understanding with Wiper to secure extensive control of Nairobi’s political seats.

The former deputy president has said the alleged deal would allow his party to take the governorship, the Senate seat, 16 of the 17 parliamentary constituencies, and a majority of ward positions. He has also been linked to efforts to secure strategic roles in Nairobi in return for supporting Mr Musyoka’s presidential bid.

The dispute has highlighted the ongoing pressures within the United Opposition, which has faced repeated accusations of secret negotiations and unilateral decisions among its leaders. Despite these internal tensions, the coalition maintains that it will present a single presidential candidate against President William Ruto in 2027.

President Ruto has criticised the coalition for focusing on unseating him rather than outlining an alternative policy agenda. Opposition leaders argue that their priority is to defeat him at the ballot box.
