Raila, Wetang'ula Stir Drama at Supreme Court Entrance

There was a short drama at the Supreme Court on Monday afternoon after National Super Alliance (Nasa) presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Bungoma senator-elect Moses Wetang’ula scuffled with police officers manning the gate to the Supreme Court after the officers declined to allow entry of an armed bodyguard assigned to Wetang'ula.

A seemingly angry Odinga and Wetang’ula confronted the senior Administration Police officer heading the team manning the gate as Amani National Coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi, who had been locked out together with the bodyguard, looked on.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was captured angrily punching his hand with his fist and yelled at the police officers.

“This is a High Court, not a police station. Stop being unreasonable," Raila busted.

“I am the one who has brought the case to the court. I am the one who decides who comes with me,” Odinga added.

Trouble begun when Wetang’ula’s bodyguard insisted to bring a pistol into the compound, contrary to the rules.

There was a notice on the pillar at the gate is a sign reading, “No arms beyond this point.”

Further, Wetang'ulas bodyguard did not have the accreditation badge that had been issued before the start of the hearing of the case.

“These are our security. He is an officer like yourself. Behave yourself,” Mr Wetang’ula said as Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga and others in the entourage complained.

“This boy is an officer like you,” said Wetang’ula.

The bodyguard eventually forced his way in, creating a fresh scuffle at the security checkpoint at the entrance to the courts.

The bodyguard was later forcefully ejected from the court and his pistol confiscated, the magazine removed and bullets counted, with a police vehicle summoned to take him to a police station.
