Five Family Members Killed in a Grisly Road Accident Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

Five family members were on Saturday morning killed in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

The five died after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck at Taru area, around 80 kilometers from Mombasa town.

Four other people cheated death by a whisker in the fatal road accident that happened at around 5.10 am.

Confirming the incident, Coast regional traffic commander Peter Maina said the five family members, including a husband, his wife, and their three children died on the spot.

Four other people who were critically injured in the crash are undergoing treatment at Kinango Sub-County Hospital.

The family was heading to Mombasa when their Toyota Voxy was involved in a head-on collision with a Nairobi-bound truck

Following a rise in road accidents in the Coast region, especially on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, authorities have convened a meeting with owners of public service vehicles to find a solution.

“We will be meeting with owners of public service vehicles this weekend to inform them of the new measures,” said Maina.

On Thursday, five people died in a road crash at Shangia on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

More than anything else, most accidents happen because of human error, and that is, bad driving, letting road unworthy cars on the road, and bad roads.Given this back drop, there is no wonder that africa leads the world with the most road accidents. Infact 7 of the 10 worst countries in the world are in africa.
Needless to mention that countries with the least accidents in the world are the so called developed Nations/advanced. This is not to spell doom for africa, but to seriously look into this matter. And find solutions to most of these man made accidents.

Mr maximiley. When you say bad roads and bad cars, I gotta ask...when did you last drive on this NBI-,MSA highway or any other inter town road?
Your comment shows your ignorance with the nations vehicles and roads. Its man made but not primarily on the road makers or auto makers or state they are in.
Just do some driving and you will see the no.1 reason is reckless driving. There is a lot of that, with little legal and social consequences - except where physics is involved. That is where these accidents occur. I urge you to look up the causes. Very few media outlets describe the accidents and instead sensationalize with big headlines on body counts for shock value, but the mundane elements are often tragically ignored for the public to be aware or learn from.

@ Mwafrika, when I say bad roads, obviously common sense would let you think that not all roads are bad. I was In Western Kenya in December, are you familiar with the Webuye Luandeti road? At Kaburangu, there is always accidents at the junction. Its one of the most dangerous, and accident prone location in Kenya. Are you also familiar with the road from Luandeti to Lugari station, adn beyond? If not go there during rain season and see what I mean.
Bad cars mean road unworthy cars. And I saw plenty.
To me one bad road accident that could have been avoided it too many.
