President Uhuru Pokes Holes on Supreme Court Decision to Annul His Victory

President Uhuru Kenyatta says that Supreme Court's decision to overturn the August 8th presidential election was a “coup by four people sitting in court.”

The President termed the decision by the majority as judicial dictatorship that had denied Kenyans the power of decision making.

“This was a coup…I must call it what it is,” he said, while meeting Jubilee Party elected leaders from Northern Kenya at State House, Nairobi, on Thursday.

“This is a voice of a few, who on their own decided they can choose a leader for the majority of Kenyans. If this is not dictatorship, I don’t know what it is,” he said.

The gains of the Constitution promulgated in 2010 was reversed by the judgment, which has allowed a few people to lead over the majority, Uhuru said.

“The judgment has shown the voice of the people matters no more. What matters is the voice of a few people, who arrogate to themselves powers they don’t have,” he said.

The head of state told Chief Justice Justice David Maraga that the ruling does not fit within the meaning or spirit of the Constitution.

He hit out at the court over remarks that it will not delay to annul the presidential election if it is not conducted as provided by the law.

“They say numbers don’t matter but they refused to look at the important documents, which is the only way to determine the expression of people’s sovereign will,” he said.

Uhuru noted the judges should have ordered a recount of the votes if they were genuine in their push for justice.

“In a free country source documents best express people will, but the judges refused to look at them. They are lucky they are dealing with a polite man, who respects the constitution and is not interested in seeing Kenyans fight,” he said.

Uhuru, you have to be careful what words you say at the moment before you undermine another branch of the government known as the "judiciary." I disagree with your approach when you disagree with someone especially when you use inappropriate words publicly to describe what you think about the judiciary. The entire nation of Kenya is looking upon all the elected elected servants of the people what they say in public. Please be careful in your casual use of the language - Absolutely no name calling, eg., WAKORA!

@Imara: If someone steps on your toes time and time again, you have the right to come out strong and defend yourself. The Supreme Court stepped on Uhuru’s toes in front of the entire nation. That is why he is publicly showing displeasure with the Maraga four. I don’t know about you but I would do the same. An eye for an eye! And, a tooth for tooth!

Uhuru
,Your "win" was not a peoples win, it was a scheme marshalled by your click through crook and hook, there was no coup in the supreme court either, they ruled as they saw it and the angst you are experiencing is akin to what alot of Kenyans have gone through for the last three (3) elections.. so have a taste of your medicine. And by the way if you are so confident of your future "win" then you should be campaining instead of attacking Justices of the supreme court.

We're you given a different ruling that stated what you just wrote? Raila worshippers only understand what he says.

I cannot definitively say who won since the IEBC could not verify the results in front of the judges. How could a recount be done with fake forms some of which were submitted as evidence. The recount would probably cost more than a re-vote. Maraga keep up the good work and if they do it again.. declare null and void till they do it righ

@Sokora

Brother Sokora, my new approach in life is to express my opinions freely with my brothers and sisters all over the world without name calling, put downs, or insults.

Let us trend carefully in using profanity words and insulting the office of presidency, freedom of press does not warrant irresponsible utterance that is currently portrayed in today's social media. Regardless of who is the president please let us respect the office, for leaders will come and go after expiry of their tenure.

We as majority should call the decision by supreme court a coup against Uhuru government. We support you Mr president and you will win again and again.

@Bishop Martin, respect is a two way affair. If they want respect in that high office, let them start by respecting the court and wanainchi. Hzta sifaham nani mkora saa hii.

Brother Ruto and Uhuru were very happy with the court decision about the election results in 2013.

Brother Raila disagreed but did not insult the judiciary. Fast forward: Brother Ruto and Uhuru disagreed with the decision made by the supreme court when they nullified the presidential election results of this year 2017. Insults directed against the chief justice followed.
