Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed Lands top Advisory Role at the UN

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has landed a top advisory role at the United Nations.

Amina will be one of the members of a team of external advisers mandated to offer expertise opinion to UN General Assembly President Miroslav Lajcak.

The CS joins the 15-member team and will advise the UNGA President on what agenda to prioritize for the assembly's 72nd session.

The priorities of the session range from mediation, conflict prevention and sustaining peace, migration and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals among others.

The team comprises of outstanding personalities from all United Nations regional groups and is expected to hold its first session on October 6th in New York.

"It will include a discussion on a wide range of global political issues, impressions of the General Assembly's recently concluded high-level week, the messages emanating from the General Debate and principal international challenges ahead," Lajcak's spokesman Brenden Varma said in a statement.

"The list is not final and may be expanded at a later date," added the statement.

Amina's appointment comes eight months after she lost her bid to chair the African Union commission,".

While accepting the appointment, Amina said it was an honor to Kenya's commitment to progressing universal values.

"I congratulate the other eminent colleagues who have been recognized to support the President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Each one of us, through this role, is a vital part of our future and that of our children. Our common goal is to focus on our people to strive for peace and deliver a decent life for all in a sustainable planet," she said.
